Childline team along with Honorable Members of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) Mr. Ngurang Achung and Mr. Jumtum Minga, CWC members, legal Advocates of District visits governments schools at Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh.
It is very sadden to notice that many Government schools in Lower Dibang Valley have poor maintenence of toilets and water facilities in the school campus.
Note:The absence of toilets results in a high drop out ratio among girls, especially those in the 11-13 age group, the age of puberty. The need for a clean, hygienic bathroom is crucial at this stage.
The infrastructure were horrible with broken doors, ceilings and window. Some schools does not even have a designated sweeper. Clean drinking water facilities were lacking, books at library were not up to date and poorly maintained, laboratory looks more like a store room, smart class were not operated with improper computer class attendance and no internet facilities. Some class were also merge in the same class room due to lack of class room, flooring were dusty and worn out. Improper electric circuit with some classes having no electric facilities.
It is a clear violation of Right to Education act, 2009.The Central Government supports States and Union Territories (UTs) for creation and augmentation of infrastructure facilities including drinking water and toilet facilities in schools across the country under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). Under Swachh Vidyalaya the cooperates and privates companies are also entrusted for maintenance of toilets in schools under CSR funds.
We would like to request the concern Departments, community based organization, legal authorities and NGOs to kindly take this into notice and find a solution for the best interest and the wellbeing of the students.
