Keeping in focus Bamboo considered as “green gold” AMYAA NGO Organized a month long training in Skill development Program on Bamboo Handicraft training through the support of Small Industry Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for the unemployed youths from 10th October to 9th November 2019. The valedictory cum distribution of completion certificate function was graced by Shri Tapik Pertin ADC, Roing. In his message, T. Pertin encouraged the trainees to keep up the spirit of enthusiasm and be consistent in developing the skills learnt. He also said that since the state has huge bamboo resources, aspiring entrepreneurs can make maximum use of starting small bamboo handicraft units of their own in their own villages. He assured of all possible support from the side of the District Administration. He also visited the Bamboo Handicraft finished Products exhibition site displayed by the trainees at AMYAA NGO Training Hall.
A total of 30 unemployed youth took active participation in the training and were trained in varieties of bamboo handicrafts items making by giving a modern fine touch and finishing to the products. The master artisans from Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) facilitated the training as resource persons. The initiative of this training was taken AMYAA to promote sustainable development which will generate income and well-being of the people.
The training program introduced the use of modern machinery complying with the regional aspirations and utilities for livelihoods. In this one month training the youths were able to make; mug, mobile stand, pen stand, key bunch, mobile dock, ear rings, fruit tray, tray, candle stand and jewellery box. The combination of experienced master artisans and environment friendly trainees led successful completion of the training.
Apart from the given task, some of the participants came up with lots of creative designs of their own which shown the interest of the trainees if better learning environment and workplace were provided. The keen interest and patient hard work of the trainees were clearly reflected in the finish products. This training program has to a great extent changed people’s perception of bamboo as a sustainable resource. Bamboo craft holds enormous potential to utilize resources that we see in our daily lives and how that potential could be bent towards better and environment-friendly products.
Shri R. K. Paul Chawang, Secretary AMYAA expressed his satisfaction in the way the trainees participated in the training. He assured the trainees of all possible hand-holding in the post training. He said that the training has been the ice-berg taste of modern bamboo handicraft where modern machineries are applied for giving the finest finishing touches. He further added that AMYAA assures aspiring budding entrepreneurs of all possible support for bridging up with Banks and Government.
