Celebration of International Women’s Day by SHGs of Lower Dibang Valley
The International Women’s Day (8th March, 2017) with the theme “Be BOLD for CHANGE” was celebrated with pomp and gaiety by 290 Women SHG members from 38 SHG groups of Lower Dibang Valley District at Central Rehko, Cheta, Roing under the aegis of AMYAA NGO. The Celebration was organized by AMYAA NGO through the support of NHPC Ltd under CSR Initiatives.
The celebration was marked by colourful performances of both Mishmi (Idu) and Adi (Padam) traditional dances, folk songs and fashion show by the SHGs. The Eze SHG from Ezengo Village displayed a thematic Skit on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”. Shri R. K. Paul Chawang, Secretary AMYAA briefed on the concept behind for common celebration of International Women’s Day by all SHGs in the District and the purpose for formation of District Level SHG federation.
Shri Deepak Shinde IAS, DC Roing launched the first ever District Level SHG federation in the name “Dibang Women Cooperative Society Ltd (DWCS Ltd)” promoted by AMYAA NGO. He handed over dustbin and broom to the Executive Members of DWCS Ltd with a message to carry forward the message of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in spirit and action. In his message he quoted the examples of successful SHG federations in the state of Kerala. He said likewise in the District SHGs can achieve greater heights of success through proper and systematic organizational structure such as federation. He further added SHG federation at District level will facilitate SHGs for better networking and coordination with District Administration and other line Departments. He said that SHG federation is to work for empowerment of women in all areas of political, social and economic fields. He also appreciated the initiatives taken up by AMYAA NGO towards formation of DWCS Ltd.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Shri PP Singh JE, PHED Roing took a session on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He said that participation of SHG member in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan can help fulfill the target of keeping every village and town clean for better living environment. He also highlighted the various schemes implemented in the District by the departments on health and sanitation. He called for women both in urban and rural to take greater participation towards the mission of Open Defecation Free (ODF) and maintenance of proper health and hygiene. Reading materials on Health and sanitation were distributed to all the participating SHG members.
Smti Sipi Elapra, Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) speaking on the occasion said that women in the society owe respect and care for they take irreplaceable role in building of family, society and nation’s peace and prosperity. She stressed on the need to respect women’s area of independence so as to enable her to grow and development her potentialities.
Shri Savitri Khamti, Deputy Director, ICDS Roing spoke on the historical background of International Women’s Day celebration by highlighting the various dates, quotes and themes as declared by UNO from year to year. She said that inspite much provisional Laws in protection of women and girl child rights passed by the Indian Parliament, women continue to be suffer from violation of her basic rights.
Smti Lina Menjo, newly elected President of DWCS Ltd also spoke on the occasion and thanked AMYAA NGO for providing a common platform to all SHGs irrespective of tribes, religion and community to come together under the common banner of Dibang Women Cooperative Society Ltd. She assured her commitment to work for the common progress of all the SHGs at various level of primary, cluster and District level federation of SHGs in the District.
The celebration concluded with vote of thanks by Smti Neharika Umbrey, Secretary DWCS followed by common sharing of lunch by all the participants. Dignities like Shri Nitya Mili, DDM NABARD and Shri B. Tama DDH also participated in the celebration.
